About

The connection

Improvise is a touring workshop convention built on one idea: dancers grow fastest in a room that’s focused on training.

There’s no competition, no scoreboard and no callbacks. Every hour of the weekend is class time, taught by people actively working in the industry — choreographers, assistants and teachers who are in rooms and on sets right now.

The name is the method. Technique gives you the vocabulary; improvisation is where you find out what you have to say with it. We build both into both days — and improvisation is on the schedule as its own class, not just an idea in the name.

FAQ

Registration & Pricing

How do I register?+

Fill in the form on the Register page and pay the $150 retainer online to hold your spot. It's non-refundable and counts toward your tuition. You'll get a confirmation email and a full receipt. The remaining fee is due in person at the start of the event — card only.

How much does it cost?+

Tuition for both days is $350, or $315 if you register before November 1. That includes five classes a day, two seminars and Q&A sessions. $150 of it is the retainer you pay online; the rest is due at the start of the event. Drop-in classes are $45 each, paid on site.

Can I register a whole studio at once?+

Yes — studio groups register through the same form as individual dancers. Complete one registration per dancer. If you're bringing a large group and want help coordinating, get in touch and we'll walk you through it.

When does registration close?+

Online registration stays open through Sunday, December 20. After that you can still register in person at the event.

Can I drop in for a single class?+

Yes. Drop-in classes are $45 per class, paid on site.

At the Event

What should I bring?+

Dance clothes you can move in, the shoes for your classes, a refillable water bottle, and snacks. Label everything.

What time should I arrive?+

Classes start at 10:00am on Monday, December 21. Arrive early enough to check in, pay your balance and warm up.

Can parents watch?+

Yes. Observer bands for parents are $5 per day, available on site.

Is lunch provided?+

No. There's a scheduled break, and we'll share nearby options in your city info.

Divisions & Classes

Which division am I in?+

Improvise runs two divisions: Mini / Junior and Teen / Senior. Age boundaries are listed on the Register page. If your dancer is on the line, register for their age group — we'll help sort it at check-in.

Is there a competition?+

No. Improvise is a workshops-only convention. Every hour of both days is class time.

What styles are taught?+

Contemporary, jazz and jazz tech, jazz funk, hip hop, ballet, floorwork, improvisation and sideline. The full class schedule is posted closer to the event.

Do I need experience?+

Classes are built for dancers with studio training, and faculty adjust for the room. You do not need to be advanced — you do need to be comfortable in a fast-moving class.

Travel & Hotels

Is there a hotel block?+

If a room block is arranged for Chicago, the link will be on the Chicago event page under Book a Room.

Where is the event?+

AForce2Be Dance Company, 3682 Prairie Lake Ct, Aurora, IL 60504 — about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago. Directions are on the event page.

Policies

What's the refund policy?+

The $150 retainer is non-refundable. Everything else — the rest of your tuition, observer bands and merchandise — is refundable on request. Email improvisedanceconnection@gmail.com.

Can I transfer my registration to another city or dancer?+

No — registrations can't be transferred to another dancer. If you can't attend, you can request a refund under the refund policy above.

What happens if an event is cancelled or rescheduled?+

If Improvise cancels an event, everyone registered is refunded in full.

Is there a waiver or photo release?+

Yes. Every dancer needs a signed participation waiver and photo/video release before taking class. It's signed in person at check-in or on a separate form we send ahead of the event.

Can I return merchandise?+

Yes — merchandise can be exchanged or returned for a full refund.
